IBB University, Lapai, Niger State’s owned university, has selected Layer3 to deploy a best-in-class campus network and IT infrastructure. The project will include the full range of Juniper Network’s portfolio cutting across networking products, wireless LAN solutions and network security solutions. Layer3 will also be deploying unified communication across the campus, using Polycom’s portfolio as well as data storage solutions from NetApp and interactive teaching boards from SMART Technologies. The entire deployment will be to provide an exceptional mobility experience and superior education quality for students and staff of the university.
According to the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Ibrahim A. Kolo” In line with the university’s vision of being a world-class center of excellence driven by people, partnership and technology, we realized there was a need for a reliable and highly available network to support teaching, learning, research and administration of the university, as well as satisfying the growing demands of tech-savvy students. After a thorough evaluation process, we were able to choose Layer3, a wholly indigenous company, with best-of-breed solutions from global technology leaders. With the project completed, the university will be able to offer a highly secure, mobile, efficient and interactive educational experience to benefit all stakeholders of the University.”
The DVC of the University, Dr. Alfa Baba further added “We are really excited about the technologies Layer3 is bringing on board. We are particularly happy about the interactive boards from SMART and the data storage solutions from NetApp. We chose the Juniper Network solution, instead of solutions from other vendors, because this will form the bed rock of the network infrastructure and offers scalability and flexibility for future upgrades and add-ons. Layer3’s proven track record in the education sector offers us confidence in thier capabilities to help us achieve academic excellence and fulfill our vision of being one of the best in offering technology-driven education in the country.”
The university will become one of the first among the higher education institutions in Nigeria to have a campus network infrastructure of this nature. The network will enable staff and students to access essential learning and administration systems, while sharing information and encouraging interaction in any location on the campus – anytime with any device. In addition, Layer3 will also be providing low-latency, broadband Internet connection over its leased long-distance fiber network to the university.
“We are extremely pleased to have been selected by IBB University. Our long-standing relationships with other institutions in the higher education sector such as the University of Jos, University of Agriculture, Makurdi and Elizade University have given us a thorough understanding of the unique challenges faced by the universities. We are looking forward to working with IBB University to build a scalable, resilient infrastructure that will support thier objectives for secure mobility and interactive learning and scale with thier growth plans” Oyaje Idoko, CEO at Layer3 said.
